HOW TO: Change air filter on mk2 1.9D - adam3rdcanvey - 09-04-2011
The replacement of the air filter element should be carried out every 30,000 miles. If you have any questions please email or pm me.

You will need:
1: 10mm socket or spanner.
2: Medium Phillips screwdriver.
3: Replacement air filter element. I bought a Mahle LX1568 aftermarket filter from Autocare. Citroen/Peugeot no:1444cc, was only £8.
4: Bucket of hot soapy water and cloths
5: WD40 or similar.
HOW 2:
Disconnect airflow meter wiring connector gently.

Remove 2nd part of air inlet duct, careful with the clips located here mine was broken previously!

Undo or remove 10mm nut retaining air inlet duct to front of vehicle. duct can then be removed for cleaning. Push to right to remove.

Undo the Phillips head screws that retain the air filter housing lid. Two at the front and two at the back. DON'T remove them, just slacken enough to enable lid to be lifted.

I removed and cleaned all these ducts with hot soapy water. Then dried.
Lift up lid of the air filter housing to expose the old filter element. The element and complete housing can be removed, just lift out.

Replace lower part of air filter housing, then new air filter element. Ensure it is correctly seated in the housing. Replace lid and tighten the 4 screws gently so just secure and tight.

Re-attach air duct pipes and re-connect the airflow meter, I spray all connectors with wd40 or similar when i re-connect them, prevents corrosion and retains effectiveness of connection. I have used some duck tape to secure my pipe, as the clip was broken and loose. Job done!

Excellent pics, and well written
Looks like there could be variations out there though as mine only has 2 screws on the housing, the front two are slot-in pivot points, and as a result I only had to disconnect the MAF sensor.. all the piping remained in place..

cheers Grim, thanks for the info, hopefully others will add variations for the later models and HDI variants too
I only removed all the ducts for a good cleanup really..... bit OCD with clean.....

I was told, before even buying a Berlingo, to be very careful when cleaning in the engine bay and to NEVER EVER USE A PRESSURE WASHER OR SIMILAR.
Apparently non of the electrical connectors are sealed against ingress of water and to get water in the engine bay is a definate no-no.
To do so is to invite disaster and faults galore so please be aware of this fact....
Oh and that is my cop-out clause for leaving it Sh*tt*d up neath the bonnet....

Agree with andy on this one though............... Over the last six years I have used a selection of brushes and engine cleaner to keep it really clean under the hood..... My thoughts are you can then spot any leaks or differences much quicker and easier.
The shiny new Bosch battery helps too:lol:

This is a good point. For those who are wondering whether or not to use, on the 2Ltr HDI we had, it got pressured washed about every 2 months, and it lasted fine. Some of the times it would be a little irregular in revs, but never had anything of major concern.
