Fitting a towbar - how to do it? - Bytemare - 05-05-2013

Greetings!! Smile

Ok so today I came across a nice deal on a towbar on my Berlingo 2012mod.
My experience when it comes to cars and do some mechanic stuff is quite poor.
But, before I get the parts I wanted to check with you guys if anyone has done
this before on their own car. And if there is any tips or advice I could have before
I start. (including the wiring)

Here is a few pic's on the towbar itself and my car:

Thanks in advance, any suggestions and tips more than welcome Confusedtudy:

If you do a search on towbar.towbar wiring etc you will come up with a wealth of info already posted.
Many of us fit our own towbars -its an easy and rewarding little job.
First off though you need a towbar for your vehicle -the one you are looking at is for a MK2.
Wiring is easy too - include a bypass relay to protect your cars own sysem though.

Make a start and ask along the way

Thanks for the reply evdama. So the one I ordered is not fitted for my car, and the car I have is called MK3?
If so I need to cancle my order asap Tongue

What you are saying is that I can wire the stuff on my own, and not " have " to have a pro do it?

I did a search here on the forums but might not have seen what I was looking for. Will try again and see if I can
get better results. Thanks anyway Smile

Yes cancel -it will not fit.
You need a 2009 onward L1 model
Witter is a good make I have one on mine.
Bosal are good too
The wiring looks difficult but it is straightforward

lol yeah I'm that kind of a noob when it comes to cars. Thought I have posted another thread on another norwegian forum said
he help me out get the right towbar. Also need to figure out if it will be ok with my warrenti etc if I wire myself.

If you look in your manual you will see citroen provide details for towbars/third party fitters/coach builders so as long as it is done to a reasonable standard and has not interfered with the rest of the car(thats where the bypass relay comes in) they will not have a problem.
