Dash tweeters - j90xxx - 02-05-2011

Lost the thread now, but someone mentioned a tweeter upgrade?
Are the originals as poor quality as the cardboard door speakers?
If replacing them, makes sense to do the tweeters as well.

I put dash speakers in as not all models have them.

My how to on door and dash speakers

I couldn't imagine how it would sound without the dash speakers now, it's a lot better

I cant imagine them (the tweeters) being any better than the door speakers. The Berls are awful soundwise, so just get em out and replaced!

I think it's more that it brings it closer to your ears, but I wouldn't go without them now I have them lol

No mate, they are even worse because there aren't any!!!!:brickwall::brickwall::brickwall:

The wires and connectors are already present and wired at the radio end but nowt in the dash....

I bought and fitted http://www.maplin.co.uk/1.5-inch-car-tweeters-217928 and got the connector/adapter off e-bay.

It does say in the instructions to wire non-polarised caps in both parellel and seried with the units but I found that it worked better without.

Usual caveat and I am of course still using the original cassette radio so maybe you may need them with a more powerful player/radio

RE: Dash tweeters - j90xxx - 02-05-2011

Well mine HAS tweeters as standard.
Horrible little tinny sounding things.
Taken them out. Made no difference to the overall sound.
And they do have a capacitor, 6.7 micro Farad.
Made by HARMAN, in France. Part no. 96 333 557 80.
Do you want them?
Will have to rescue them from the non-recyclable waste receptacle. (The dustbin!)

RE: Dash tweeters - andy-womble - 02-05-2011

No thanks, quite happy with the ones I fitted.

To be honest, I find that I cannot concentrate on driving with background noise nowadays (health reasons which i won't go into on here) and it is rare to have the radio on at all, plus the insides of a Berlingo is hardly the most quietest environment for a sound system to compete against....

RE: Dash tweeters - j90xxx - 02-05-2011

Hi Andy,
Are the Maplin tweeters a worthwhile upgrade for 10 english pounds, plus price of wiring adaptors??
Has anyone who had original dash tweeters done the upgrade and noticed a difference?
Or shall I just not bother.......

RE: Dash tweeters - andy-womble - 02-05-2011

Hey up Martin,

Yes, I think so. Can definately pick out more top end sound coming at you rather than down the sides of the motor.

Certainly worth a tenner from a Maplins near you and here is the link to the guy who supplies the adapters http://stores.ebay.co.uk/electronics-world-eu

Realised I had no joy from my original thread 14 months ago!
So...
Anyone recommend good quality upgrade dash tweeters that won't break the bank?
Changed standard door speakers to Kenwood ages ago, forgot I still not replaced the original tweeters.Confusedillyme:
Someone must have done the mod? (Apart from Womble with his Maplin specials!)
If so, what did you use and was there a noticeable improvement in sound quality?
