Fuel Cap Problems - ouradventure - 16-07-2013
I got stuck at the garage the other day for 5 minutes trying to get the fuel cap to seat down properly and allow the key to turn to release it from the cap.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Is there a fix
or Am I going to have to buy a new fuel cap and put up with have a different fuel cap key.

the locking part is easy to get out of sync with the cap body but it shouldnt be a krypton factor puzzle.
Turn the lock fully anticlockwise and then put the cap in fully seated.
Turn the whole assembly clockwise using the key.

The problem appears to be the seating of the key release mechanism that allows the key to turn and be released from the cap. Some times it seats down correctly and at others it just refuses to do so. Wobbling the cap as it seats makes it better but does not cure it

Had the same problem myself. You're spot in if you look underneath the filler cap you'll find the little toggle (the key release mechanism) which prevents the cap from rotating if not pushed home enough. I now make sure that toggle is at the top when putting the cap in place then push the cap upwards a touch, the cap shuts easily then.

I find this happens on mine but only one way, so if you lift cap off neck, rotate cap 180deg, put back into neck & key turns ok.
Edit, just read Bigian's post a bit more carefully so yes that must be it, needs the 'bit' at the top. I never really looked though. If it don't go in one way I try it the other way & it does.
