Knocking sound in traffic - lennythelion - 07-01-2014

Hi all,

hoping I could pick your brains before I take the car into the garage.

Over the last 2 weeks or so I have noticed an occasional knocking sound which sounds like coming from underneath the front end of the car while starting off from 1st or, having just broke and set off again while manoeuvring in car parks.

This morning on a 10 mile journey in traffic, the knocking has become more persistent, but occasional. i.e. it will start knocking for perhaps 10-20 secs, stop again and then a minute or so later start again. It seems to be happening more after I've just pulled away and got up to 2nd or 3rd, and it doesn't seem to be affected by bumps or turns?

Car has just been serviced 500 miles/ 3 weeks ago and nothing was pointed out then!

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

May be worth checking the under engine tray is secure. The garage may not have resecured it properly. I had this on our other car when they sheared 2 of the 3 bolts & just left it fastened with 1. Symtoms were very similar.

Hope it is this simple, managed to get it into garage this afternoon, so I'll let you know.

If it's their own goal hopefully they come clean and don't try to hit you with a bill!

Yep,

it was the engine undercover which after the service hadnt been bolted back up correctly.

It sounds as though you have found a really incompetent garage. If they are unable to fit a simple thing like an undertray, what are they like with the interesting stuff?Confusedcratch:
