Hi Peter,
This has been covered before in part, so do a quick search.
The upshot is that the lead to the supplied useless satnav is live all the time, but can be converted to a USB lead which will supply a TomTom. I've done this myself using a simple plug convertor part (can't remember number) from a company called CPC (just google 'em).
Just remember to switch off your TomTom when you leave the vehicle.
As for the tracker.
Keep the supplied satnav connected. Then call the supplied phone number to tell the tracker people who you are. They then"initialise" the tracker. You can then scrap the useless satnav and connect up a Tomtom.
The tracker will still work fine, even though it's integrated into the supplied satnav wiring.
If your van gets stolen, call the supplied phone number and they'll activate the tracking for the Police.
Mine worked for the 3 years as shown on the documents. They then wrote to me to offer a continuation.
Hope this helps.
