Hi, I have made a sleeping platform to go in the back of my mark 2 but am struggling a bit with curtains. Three main choices: velcro, curtain wire or suction cups. Anyone had any success with this?

I'm thinking along similar lines in my Mk3. I'm thinking of not having something permanently rigged, but to use shock cord hooked on at all four corners which I can hang at night, so I don't have curtains flapping around in the daytime. Either way it'll be cheap enough to experiment.

I had a go at this in my old VW Transporter Minibus, I wasnt so very pleased with the result using velcro it was awkward nd often looked messy, suction cups in Spain just didnt work, in the end I bit the bullet and put hook in the metalwork which did the job ok but there were issues with the sliding door catching the curtain.
why not try as a temporary thing magnets, either with hooks attached or just plain square ones. They could even be sewn in to the curtain. would be neat and easily stowable. I havent looked to see if there is enough bare metal in the right places to enable it to work. Just an idea. cratch:

Hadn't thought of magnets or shock cords so gives me a bit more food for thought. Going out for the first night on new years eve (the girlfriend is delighted!) and going with the uber bodge of the car cover. Prob ok for one night in winter but not one for the summer ...

You can buy very thin bungee type elastic from a ships chandlers.
That should prove to be a workable solution.

Magnets is a good idea though - I like that.

The shockcord will pull the magnets unless they're quite large (tried this on another motor). You can
get rigid curtain/net mounts that consist of an oval tube within a tube(telescopic) with eyelets each end. The mounting pins are plastic / metal pin with double sided sticky tape. Make sure the mounting area is immaculate so the double sided sticky gets a good hold. Make a hem on the top and bottom of the curtains, slide the telescopic rods through and hook them onto the mounting pins. The rods are about 10mm x 5mm, come in various telescopic lengths, can be cut with a hacksaw to suit and are only a couple of quid to buy at most big stores and some DIY shops too. Dead easy to mount / remove.

Sticky backed Velcro type fastening would work if you want them demountable. We use it in the trailer tent or you can try curtain J track riveted in place and the same cut in pieces sewn to the curtain to hold them up. We have used this in awnings as well.

the sticky back never worked for me it just went gooey in the heat and fell off but then I did once leave a cassette (!?) on the front seat and it melted! Got seriously hot there in August.:lol:
