What are the early symptoms of the clutch about to give up the ghost?

A few days ago, I started feeling something through the clutch pedal - a bit of vibration

Now there is a slight judder when releasing the clutch when changing gear

Today I noticed that when the clutch pedal is pressed, there is a wiring sound which disappears when you release the clutch

Are these early symptoms of clutch failure, or is this just the clutch release bearing going?

There is no clutch slip at load

If it is the release bearing, how difficult is this to change or as it's all apart is it best to do a full clutch change?

Any help is much appreciated for a lingo with 64000 on the clock
These are not early sights of clutch failure, it HAS failed. If you continue to drive the car, you risk more damage. I would get it done immediately, you may only have a dozen presses of the clutch left.
The clutch is dead easy to replace wholesale when the gearbox is off the vehicle..... the rub is that there is a lot of work and cost involved to get at it .... so as you say change it all whilst the access is there.

Yes its the release bearing thats giving you the problem and needs changing.I dont think its a difficult job on the Lingo but for the price of it and taking into consideration the amount of mileage youve done ,it certainly would pay to have a complete clutch kit fitted,they arent that expensive.Go to a reputable clutch specialist, they will be able to give you a quote,please ensure its a quote and not an estimate and get it in writing,that would be my advice.Good luck.
Well at a Citroen dealer the cost is £699 for genuine parts but they will do it for £599 for cars over 3 years old.
A local garage charge £29 per hour and if it takes 8 hours that's £230 plus parts at about £130, so total cost should be in the region of £362
I'm planning for a clutch change very soon on our 63 plate 90 Enterprise, it's just hit 98,000mmls since November 11th  2013, and sometimes has a little clutch Judder on pull away, normally in traffic and the clutch been working hard, I'm guessing it struggles to dissipate the heat with reduced friction material left, again the thrust bearing, is making a noise when it's released, so that'll be changed while it's apart, am I correct in thinking they have concentric slave cylinders?
Release bearing is the achilles heel of the PSA clutches.
I have yet to see one wear out the plate. What happens with time is the release bearing cuts into the tips of the diaphragm fingers, sometimes cutting them off, and buggers up the release bearing simultaniously.
Usually it damages the release bearing guide too. This is also the oil seal for the front of the gearbox.
They are quite straightforward if you are going to do it yourself (Unlike the Landrover Discovery cluth I am changing at the moment)

Symtoms are as you describe- Clutch noise, judder and sometimes drag.

Replace all 3 components as only the plate will be servicable, but worn. Not worth doing 2 out of 3 and no cheaper

Yep,we all know that in a main dealer you have to pay for the shiny floor and the coffee machine,youll probably be paying in the region of £80 - £100 per hour and get the same job done.I have a mistrust of garages so i would say to you just be careful there still are a lot of cowboys out there promising the earth and delivering an expensive 2nd hand component ,if its changed at all.Make sure you get the old parts back for you to check,and do make sure you get a decent quality new clutch even a genuine one ,ask for the box that it comes in so you can store the old clutch ,youll then know whats been used.If you have a friendly local garage or even a mobile service technician youve used and trust then do use them.Down here in Plymouth there are specialist companies such as Mr Clutch who are set up and only do clutches ,and a few mobile mechanics ,these people will use your garage and you dont end up paying workshop time.Someone on this forum will be able to tell you if £130 for a complete clutch is ok,perhaps price a new one up to buy from Euro Parts,you know the old adage ,-- buy cheep---buy twice.Very true in the case of clutches.I would have thought 8 hours to do a clutch is a little excessive perhaps again theres someone out there who has done one on these vehicles,i sometimes think that they try and pull the wool over your eyes with a load of bumpf.At least if you are armed with the correct information beforehand youll be able to tell if someone is taking you for a fool !!!
