Hi Folks,
I searched the forums for an answer to this and it has been mentioned before that someone thought that the spanner light came on before the 12500 miles was up. After an earlier self service I did, it seemed to me that I had covered 12500 miles on the interval counter well before the odometer showed it - so it made me a bit suspicious and more dilligent in recording the figures. I did a service at 34742 miles and reset the counter. The interval counter is now showing 2600 and the odometer 40355. So the distance travelled is 40355-34742 which is 5613 but according to the counter 12500-2600 which is 9900. There are a few possible reasons for this
1, The interval counter is 'intelligent' and takes account of stop-start driving
2, It's a bit of the conversion from the French which has been left in Km (but even that doesn't accurately compute)
3, The conspiracy theory - aimed to get us to have our cars serviced more frequently to make money
4, It's just not very accurate

Anyone got any ideas?
I just went and checked mine. I've got 7135 km on the clock and the maintenance read out shows 12800 km until service. 7135+12800=19935 which is close enough for government work. Not sure what has happened in your case.
Whats your engine ?
What did the service interval counter display when you reset it last service?

Hello again and thanks for the replies, mine is an October 2005 2.0 HDi Van (Enterprise version)and when I reset the counter it had 50 miles to go. We live in Orkney, so I usually do only 30 or 40 mile trips with little or no traffic, but an occasional sortie down to W Lancs of about 1000mile (round trip)

So when you reset the counter after last service did it initially show 12500 for 5 seconds when starting ?

Yes,
It showed 12500 after reset and for the first day or two, then 12450 etc etc as I put the miles on, but NOT as I say, the correct diminishing mileage to next service. I wonder if anyone else checks the mileage at reset each time - it's difficult to imagine what sort of software/firmware fault could produce the error I get. It's no big deal - I will just assume they are out to get me and I will not rely on this counter!!

Out of curiosity I have reset my service interval with lexia so its reading 12500 @ 74169 miles so i`ll compare service interval against mileage readings over next few weeks.

Service Interval can be reduced to 10k miles with Lexia (Harsh Setting, for dusty/Hot enviroments or Taxi use etc).

Service Interval can also be set to Kilometres with Lexia.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head - although I can't imagine why mine might have been set to Km - but that is close to the problem. Is Lexia only available to the dealer? or is there a way I can access the Km to miles conversion?
Thanks for the info
I did some km to miles calculations with your figures but it didn't work out. There are Lexia for sale on ebay.de I have seen but unfortunately with the disclaimer - no returns, sales final. That warned me off.
