Hello all.

Im new here and new to Europe. I just moved to Germany a month ago from New Zealand to do a bit of overseas experience working stuff.

Seen as though i want to go do a bunch of things i though what better way to do it than in a camper! I love the freedom of being able to park up anywhere and make camp. I did this for 3 months on a 100cc motorbike and with a tent in Vietnam end of last year.

Now i am on a super tight budget as i have only just started working after 1.5 years of travelling. The only thing going for me at the moment is that im a mechanic by trade, so will be doing *trying to* everything myself.

Plan is for a simple fold out bed and possibly a table and seat set up. I think i will retain the seats so hopefully i can help out some hitchhikers or get some fuel money from bla bla car.

So after much searching I finally settled on a Belringo (this one being the 1.6 petrol) as it ticked all the boxes, cheap, TUV (MOT), Green emissions sticker and hopefully enough space to build a bed! And also helped that i have experience with the engine and gearbox as i own  a 205 GTI at home and have had a few Frenchies in my time.

got it for 600 euros and of course some things need fixing,
-Roof doesn't work which seems to be a mega common problem but i see no one has really tackled the problem on any threads i could --- find so im going to give it a good go! (what normally goes wrong with them? mines trying to open on one side only)
-cambelt needs doing
-exhaust manifold cracked

plus its totally filthy so i started with a big clean which included stripping the entire interior including carpets...... i go a little overboard sometimes

even got some free CD's

interior, luckily i had already decided to take the carpets out for a water blast as i split beer everywhere taking the seats out haha

is this standard or some added thing? Cause i love it!

then after checking the plugs and cleaning the air filter the pressure sensor blew off the power steering hose for no reason what so ever. Luckily im used to owning french cars and was not surprised..... Ironically the problem was fixed with a spark plug and it will stay that way  Big Grin

Brilliant, one job I want to do is make some brackets so I can remove and turn the passenger seat 180 degrees and refit it for more relaxed seating, but my rear seat will not be in place.

yea was originally not going to keep the rear seats, this may still happen.

and typical french thing, why bolt the seat to the sill and not the floor pan like every other car in the world. We have some old out of date bucket seats lying at work and i was going to fit one for a laugh but that will be more of a mission than its worth with that dam bolt set up.  Dodgy
Great engine compartment - did you steam clean it?
That's going to be nice. Loads of room to camp in a Berlingo. We holiday 4 up, so if it's just you it'll be a palace when it's done ;-)

normal water blaster and a lot degreaser. then finished with a mix of diesel and oil to make it look shiny and keep everything from getting dirty again. No need for fancy "black finish" car care products.

Will the dirt not stick to the diesel/oil mixture?

no the diesel evaporates the mixture enough to be dry to the touch. That photo was taken 2 mins after spraying so still fresh. And when i blast in the future dirt will just fall off... i hope Smile
Clever - What's the mix ratio?
