Bagged 4 brand new unused steel rims for the Bingo for £50. Saved going to the breakers! Winter tyres being fitted next weekend before the rush. Woohoo. Confusedalut:

Michelin Alpin, 185/65/15 £280 fitted.
I take thats for 4?
Yes £50 total for 4 new rims. Having Avon Ice winter tyres fitted next Saturday for £200.Confusedalut:
Sounds like a 'steel'. Quite a few Berlingo owners on the look out for these.
Just explain "winter tyres" for me? Obviously missing a trick...
How far up a mountain do you live? Or close to the Arctic Circle?
Here in England it snows twice a year and gets a bit "chilly" occasionally.
When it does I slow down a little, read the road conditions and allow a bit more time for my journey.
I have been driving for nearly 30 years (20 years professionally), do I really need another set of tyres?
It's a Berlingo; not a 200mph Mclaren F1.
Forecast rain for next Tuesday, just going to check my set of "wets"....

Oh, and if you do live halfway up a mountain; buy a Land-Rover!

Most people are under the impression that winter tyres are only good for snow, winter tyres work better than summer tires in the wet, snow, slush, ice and where temperatures are below 7 degrees, even when dry, this is due to the higher silica rubber content which actually softens as the temperature drops.

Do a google for winter tyres, there's lots of reading out there.
and yes I live at 1000ft in welsh mountains, whilst I look down on all around moving around in ease I am stuck in snow drifts, etc just watching. A whole month last xmas. A landy would be great and often considered it but 20-24 mpg is out of question, so berlingo with winter tyres, good set of clack and go snow chains [on and off in 30 seconds] and I go most places......and yes I was professional driver for 30+ years...clocking up over 2,000,000 miles.....
Horses for courses, and I agree winter tyres are better in wet, snow, ice etc...
Thats why the europeans have the sense and brains to have a second set. whilst we get a little bit of snow and all hell is let loose every town in the country is at a standstill.....AND every year for a day or two we come to a standstill.....quite funny, but sad...
Thanks Steve. Done some reading and (amongst other things) according to ABI (Association of British Insurers) you should check with your insurance company before using winter tyres as some companies (wrongly) will raise your premium.
And Pete. Couldn't agree more, but isn't winter grid-lock more to do with people who can't (sorry, not a f**king clue how to) drive in snow and ice? If winter tyres were compulsory between October and March would it make a difference? I think not....Confusedcratch:
yeh I agree the british cant drive...ha ha ha , and yes its f ing crazy how again"british" insurance companies cant see past their f..ing greedy litlle f..ing noses...robbing bastards....wow you got me going on this one now......must cool off.... this f..ing greedy f.ing country.. all we see is profit profit profit. bloody people dont matter unless your not british of course...you can do what you like in this country if your not british, can we in other countries.....
sorry guys.....and gals......
