Hi
I was driving my 2003 1.9D Berlingo today and after i changed down from 3rd to 2nd the gear stick went totally loose just wobbling around like i was stirring soup
Anybody know whats wrong ?
Thanks
Hello yougbrogan welcome to the forum good to have you with us the gear link's from the gear stick to the gear box have fallen off look under the bonnet get some one to move the gear stick look at the gear box link's then then follow them back you will see which one has come off push it back on but you'll need to get new link's off ebay or one like that the dealer will do them but at a price .

Ok thank you very much. will i need to change them right away or will they be ok for a while if i reconnect them. Just i need the van for work tomorrow Sad
If you are lucky the ball joint has worn and just popped off. You should be able to pop it back on and if necessary keep it in place with a zip tie. Personally I would replace as soon as you can.

You could be unlucky as was I, and find the arm has snapped, you will have to replace the arm to get going again.

It is part's 11 or 12(x2) that wear and pop off.

I think I read somewhere on here that the bolt that holds No. 14 in place can come loose/snap.

its No.14 thats snapped on mine. is there supposed to be a ball on the end of it ?
Ill post a picture in a few minutes
Should there be a ball on the end of that ?

Afraid so. It should fit into the 'cup' on the long linkage.

Looks like this

I'd say if you could weld a 'lump' onto the end where the ball broke off it should do until you get a replacement. Mightn't have the crispest gear change, but should get you out of trouble.
Ok thank you to everyone very helpful.
