I know we 1.6 petrol owners are very few here ,but has anyone had the heat shield surrounding the cat rust through ?
If so did you leave it off or fix it back somehow ?

Waste of time, get rid of it with angle grinder.....hahaha heat shield that's a new one

I wonder if your heat shield rusted the same as mine but fell off completely ?
Looking at your photo the shield must have gone around the cat from the mounting bolts to where the domed section is welded on .I dread to think the quality of metal they used , most of the shield can't have gone more than three quarters of the way round the cat due to corrosion ,only about an inch of the full diameter was still there at the top .

The shield on our 1.6 petrol started to rattle badly on the way for it's mot a couple of years back, I mentioned it to the mechanic and he took it off while he had the car up on the ramp. Job done.
