I have a B9 e-hdi 2012 xtr with roof rails.
I want to try and find some reasonably priced clamping lockable bars to fit. I have looked at a couple and they either don't clamp onto the rails shape or they are not wide enough to stretch between the rails (over 1000mm wide)
Beware ali bars advertised on e-bay as fitting a berlingo (with a picture of a B9) have a max distance of 980mm between the rails.....very nearly didn't spot that!
Anyone got any recommendations?
I might be way off beam here, but I thought standard fitted XTR model roof bars can be fitted
longitudinally or transversally, you remove the plastic covers and undo some allen key type bolts and can change them to a transverse fitting and then just fit a roofbox, or whatever you want??
The keys quite often go missing from inside the cars but can be bought on EBay:

I think my 2008 B9 XTR is like that [although I must admit I haven't tried it] I know my previous 2007 M59 Multispace had those type bars that you could effectively pivot through 90 degrees to have them going transversally.

I think this is only true for those who have the panoramic glass roof. The normal roof bars are longer, coming all the way up to the drivers door, they would be too long for being mounted transversally.

If you have the Modutop you can swivel the bars through 90 degrees, but if not, well - you can't, because the normal roof bars are longer. The locking 'key' is just an allen key and can be bought in any good tool store.
Having seen a roof load fly off - complete with well-known locking bars - on a car ahead of me while on the motorway, I am wary of all roof attachments. On my last car I bought two lengths of aluminium bannister rail, and through-bolted them to the car's longitudinal rails. This made great roof bars without the cumbersome attachments at each end, and they were as firmly fixed as the rails themselves. No worries, sport!
One tip from this lesson is to tie every load to the car roof rails and NOT to the bars themselves.

I thought all XTR models had the panoramic glass roof and the original post referred to his vehicle as an XTR model?
I have the M59 with the Modutop - glass roof panels - and I can swivel the roof rails through 90 degrees.
I also have a B9 XTR without the glass roof, and the roof rails do not swivel. Not all XTR models have the glass roof - it is an option.
