Hi all, finally got round to fitting the Powerflex bottom engine mounting last week. Been delayed by a new shed build.

Fitting was fairly straight forward, I managed to drive out the old bush from underneath the car as planned, without taking the driveshaft carrier off. This involved cutting out the rubber centre with a wetted stanley blade and chiseling  at the metal outer ring after hacksawing a couple of slots too weaken it.

After this, the the two piece Powerflex bush easily fitted into place.

The new bush is the red one specified for the diesel models, I almost sent for the petrol type before I noticed they were available.

All good so far, no excessive vibrations and the engine has stopped rocking which has improved the gear changing and clutch control, so i'm very pleased with the results.

I've now found the powerflex bush for mine and going to get it done as soon as I get the chance. Mine does seem to have a bit of drivetrain flex when changing down.

£35 on eBay or direct from powerflex. Not bad. Cheers for posting this.
Glad to be of some help after all the info and advice I've been given by folk on this forum.

Thirty five pounds seems a lot but the bushes are guaranteed and you get a free smellie in the pack. Big Grin 

Also, I just didn't fancy taking the driveshaft out etc., getting too old for the bigger jobs. Sad

Me too. (Getting too old for big jobs).

£35 is a bargain to get rid of the squidgeyness (is that a word?) when shifting down or decelerating.
Bonus for me is that I can now reverse up off the drive without stalling the engine.
No more looking round to see if anyone saw me. :-)

Do you think the old bush could be driven out with a bolt and socket? Edd China style? What am I saying. I'll probably give it to my local trusty garage to do. I really can't be 4r5ed to lie underneath it for a couple of hours.

I would have pulled a clutch at the side of the road 10 years ago. Nowadays, I only like a bit of light tinkering. I bought a good quality hdituning box the other month, then after staring at the battery for a good 5 minutes, I thought "nah" and put it in my stash box.
You might be ok using the bolt and socket method, I would say worth a try, depends how tightly it wants to hang on. I remember changing the void bushes on the diff. of my old cortina, over a pit and I had bought the proper extractor tool. Stripped the thread on the tool and had to resort to the chisel.

The rubber on mine was pretty well broken up anyway so I went straight for chopping it out. Once I'd got the corners turned up on the metal ring (slotted first, with one of those hacksaw blade holder/handles.) it flew out after a few knocks. Would have been a piece of cake up on ramps, ...luxury :-)

By coincidence, I'm looking into getting a remap, (saw your other post). I fancy using HDI tuning, they seem to know their stuff. I haven't been in touch with them yet but I'd like to take a trip down to them at Hereford, if they could do the job while I have a look round the town. When restrictions allow of course.
Hey good call. A remap will surely make a huge difference and lots of people rate that firm, they do strong smoke free maps. I'm definitely getting it done.

My first running car when I passed my test, was a MK3 2.0 Ghia Cortina, bloody loved it. Pool ball gear knob, straight through exhaust, what a great car it was. I had bought a mk2 escort before I passed my test but never got it on the road. It got scrapped in against the Cortina. Proper blokes car that was. Could gap the points with a bit of a roll up papers packet, it never let me down in two years of hooning it around. 4 star was 36p a litre or something..

The day I got it, I slotted my new cassette album into the auto reverse stereo, UB40 Signing Off. I never took it out again, it just played over and over till the tape snapped after 18 months.

Happy days.
Loved the gearchange on the cortina, no saft linkages and joints, gearstick went straight into the box. Slick.
