adblue fuel consumption

Hi its time to replace my old 1.9d with a newer version. the problem is one salesman tells me you can get the low 60s mpg with the adblue engine another says not the non adblue is much the same but you do have extra expense of replacing the dpf filter when it eventually goes and the adblue etc. as I only do about 7 to 8000 miles a year does anyone have real life figures for the adblue engine as it may be easier to just go for the older 1.6 not have the complication of the dpf filter and just accept a few mpg less. Sorry folks should have explained I am looking for a multispace or partner tepee not a van, many thanks for your quick responses this has been very helpful, and yes I had considered petrol but they seem a bit thin on the ground where I live I'll have another look at that. again many thanks M.

Have you considered a 1.6 vti petrol if you are talking vans , quite rare but get similar mpg to the 1.9d .
Or any petrol multispace will surely not make much difference in terms of cost per mile over a diesel taking into account their higher maintenance costs as a rule.

yes with the mileage you are doing i would also go petrol now but if you are doing motorway miles regularly then a diesel is an option.

I just hate DPF,s they are a source of all kinds of problems.

If you have a dpf fitted and have not had problems then fair play.

Agree with the above - if you're doing less than 15k a year i wouldn't bother with a diesel.

1.2 puretech petrol will see 45mpg on average - real world in my 68 plate adblue van is about 54mpg but i am mostly on motorways.

If you want to stay with diesel go for an M59 or B9 with the 1.6hdi without a DPF fitted.

I don't believe any of the M59 cars had a DPF, I know that some of the B9's were DPF free also.

You can tell if the engine has a DPF from the VIN number.

I only do 6'000 miles per year with my Blue HDi .The only reason I have diesel is torque.
Having diesels before I retired,I couldn't get to like petrol engines.
Most of my runs are 20 miles minimum,I use my bus pass for shorter journeys.
Over 16,000 miles it's averaged 53 MPG.
Just an alternative view of the oil burner.

My 2017 euro6 according to computer readout fuel consumption is about 58mpg mix of local rural & motorway driving. Ad blue consumption is about 800miles/litre.

Cheapest convenient way of refilling Ad blue I find is 10litre container about £12 comes with vented spout. You might need assistance to lift full can but spout fits neatly in & refills without spilling. Ad blue tank is around 17litres so does not require filling very often.

For the older non ad blue model with dpf you have the expense of replacing eloys fluid bag after about 80k miles cost around £160.

If you want no dpf you need to go for 08 to about 11reg but only the 75 or 90bhp models. The 110bhp only fitted to XTR models all have dpf.

My 2016 computer reading is always optimistic on mpg.It reads high 50's but when checked with calculator is about 54.I always fill from very low to full,40+ litres.Over many tanks 54mpg is fairly consistent.Keeping below 60mph,or even better 50mph makes a big difference but I don't always have the time.
