Interior light wiring
#1
Hi.....my first post here and hoping someone can help.

i have a Feeling I Front interior light which comprises of a left and right map light and a central interior i light. The unit has a 4 pin plug with the following cables:

Green/ yellow
grey
green
Brown

My issue is that I'm wanting to install this unit in my Citroen Dispatch however I cannot seem to sort out the wiring. I know the Green/yellow is earth and that the grey is the live supply for the map reading lights but I'm struggling to make head of tail with regards the remaining wires. In theory 1 should be a supply from the door switch and the other should be either a live or an earth. However no matter what variation i use i cannot seem to make the interior light work correctly.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

the door switch is an earth point. ( on my old 2001 berlingo anyway)
What model/year have you got ?

IIRC the two green are earths and the other two are feed wires , one with ignition on and the other ignition off. The ignition off is a delay one , gradually fades after a min or so.   (again on my old 2001 berlingo )
there are wiring diagrams on here somewhere . Rustscrat was a good source of wiring posts

Right wiring colours mean nothing bar earths which will always be green and yellow! Zip! Zilch! Wire numbers are what matters...

That said you probably might find diagrams online for a van equating to what that came from

So your earth will be green and yellow, there will also be a feed for the left and right lights as you say Smile

The other two wires (if it’s a newish vehicle light) will come from the bsi... you will have a switched Earth from the pin switches to one side of the switch (when it’s in the on position), and the other side of the switch will take a feed from the earth (to replicate the pin switches signal on a permenant basis) and the remaining wire which if you follow the path through the light will be direct to one side of the bulb

So the two way switch will have a track to the green yellow wire, one to the bulb and one to one of the spare wires, this spare wire is the switches feed that’s commanded by the bsi via the door switches

It’s a very simple switch setup and should be very easy to workout... as we know the green and yellow is earth and can work everything out from there backwards

Thanks for your replies guys.....I have a bit more info and the numbers on the wires.

G/Y - 15444
Gray - 11273
Green - 300A
Brown - 15703

I have had this light on a bench with a 12V supply thinking it would take minutes to sort out, as you quite rightly say, it's a simple switch!!!! But have had no joy, hence joining this forum for expert assistance.

Also carried out a few more tests with an multi meter:

G/Y - to switch of left, right & centre lights,
Grey - to bulb of left & right lights
Green - to bulb of central light
Brown - to switch of centre light

With the centre switch set to operate via doors - the G/Y supplies the bulb

With the centre switch set to operate permanently (i.e. on) - G/Y & Brown supply the centre bulb.

The Grey wire is purely for the left /right map lights

What is this light out of in the first place? Is it from a partner? And what year

This should be so simple!

Green and yellow is earth, connect this to earth

Now put power on the other wires and find the one that makes the pass and drivers light illuminate, keep power on here

Now put the switch to on for the middle light and find the wire that makes it turn on when fed with live, keep a live on this

The remaining wire will make the light come on with the switch in the door position when you apply an earth, this is from the door pins

Oddly ‘A’ designated wires are normally Accesory 12v feeds, but earths normally have M designations...

Although there are often more markings than just the wire numbers so there’s a chance you haven’t got the correct numbers also, but yellow and green is always earth, in 10yrs I don’t recall any other colour being used for that (providing it’s the correct plug)

What’s it from? I have two partners here and a work bench full of oscilloscopes and powersupplys to test away from, would take me five mins to drop a multimeter on either of them ??

Hi dumdum....I bought the unit from eBay and it was listed as a Berlingo interior light, fairly recent model I assume as it's in really good clean condition

Thanks
