[WTB] Internal roof bars
#11
I think they were originally for ski's, but we use them for anything from DIY(wood/pipe etc), or most usefully when we go camping. Windbreaks, kayak paddles, camping chairs....so useful as it's a high interior that doesn't get used an awful lot otherwise.

I have used one at the front to install a shelf between it and the shelf above the windscreen. This enables me to permanently store an incredible amount of additional camping equipment within the vehicle and because of the high roof it is (a) completely out of site and (b) passengers do not even realize that it is there

I think I might need to look into this. Sounds a good idea.
Now a 2019 K9 1.2 petrol.
Before a 2010 B9 1.6 HDi diesel.

We did something similar when we drove to Majorca (long story, Christmas visit to family and French air traffic strike).

We put a board across the top from bar to front shelf and hid all the presents up there for the journey. People don't see the shelf up there at all.

In my case they would be good for resting my beard on.

I'm in the final throws of completing my new bar. It's from aluminium, so although will still have an upper weight limit, I'm sure it will take more than the 20kg of the plastic ones.

All it took was:

Ali box section (one size slightly smaller to allow collapsing for insertion/removal).

Two short U section for the uprights.

2 short pieces of Ali tube for the spacers to the mount points

2 M10 coach bolts and thumb turn nut heads

A tiny bit of Ali welding of box to U section.

Total cost of materials £34.50 (welding is being done for free by a mate)

Will post a pic when I get the welding done and it's installed.
