Hi guys,
I'm new here and was just wondering if its a common problem for the power steering pump to leak oil onto the alternator. Its a very awkward design if you ask me.
I drive a berlingo van 1.9 600D Lx
Cheers

Hi,
i have the same prob on my 1.6 hdi 07. As a recently new owner i only really noticed it yesterday, i have wiped the pump and alternator and shall now investigate the ammount and location of the leak.
Hope to find out more about this prob.
Thanks....Dave

Both my bingos have leaked, both from the rubber hose where it joins the pas fluid reservoir. The clamp around the rubber hose is w££k! The rubber hose also swells a little with age and pas fluid degrades it, once it starts to swell and more oil leaks it softens more and so it goes on.

Does the Belingo need power steering? I could easily manage mine without.
Does the power steering pump sap energy from the engine whilst travelling in a straight line ? Or does it only consume energy when turning the wheel?
If the pump is a continuous drain on the engines resources could it be removed - and how much would the fuel economy be improved with this unnecessary drain on the engine eliminated?
