2005 - front seats swap over ?
#1
Hi,

The adjuster mechanism on my 2005 multispace is broken. We use the car for our small business and a number of different people drive it so the seat needs to be adjusted.

Can the driver and passenger seats be swapped over? I guess what my question really should be is "are the frames for the seatd the same and therefore can the seatbelt bracket be put on the other side when you swap the seats?

Thanks in anticipation of any help

From memory it's not straightforward.

My drivers seat is well past it's best and I thought thisw would be the easy option and keep the upholstery matching. I did pull rthem out and look but it wouldn't be a straight bolt in job. Sorry can't remember why though

If you were in the mind to swap them over you could see how much repairing the adjuster needs- might be a quick job for a local welder.
It is on my to do list.
But not right at the top

My seats were pretty bad so I replaced them with seats from a 1994 405 Pug
Not too difficult, only a few holes to drill after taking the sliding mechanism off the Pug seats, Be aware that you lose the useful passengers seat setup if you do it. The Pug seats are vastly more comfortable than the Cit ones. It is not a totally straightforward exercise. Basically you fit the Pug seats without sliding mechanism to the mounting boxes that the original seats fit onto, The adjusting mechanism for the drivers seat is on the bottom of the box and it remains there and the Passengers seat does not slide back and forward.
Very rewarding mod.
Regards Dennis.

Thanks, might be a work around, the main benefit of using the current pasenger seat is the same material so it matches. I am going to take it apart next week and see what I find and will post a report.

It's not a straightforward swap I'm afraid. I currently have my seats out for carpet removal, and the outermost rails bolt in from in front at the front, whereas the inner rails bolt in from above at the front, if you see what I mean.

Therefore switching sides, the front of the rails wont light up with their corresponding mounting holes.

Hi,

I wonder if I can detach the seat from the runners therefore leaving the runners in place and swapping the seats on the runners in their existing positions. Or does anyone know if the runners are an integral part of the seat and cannot be removed. Any views much appreciated, It looks like I am running out of options. Thanks

Hi all,

Quick update. I managed to have a real good look at this. Feuxlingo was right, the fixing points are in different positions on the left and right hand sides of the seats thus meaning you cannot swap them because the other seat fixing points are not a "mirror image". I then looked to see if you could leave the sliding rails in place and take the seats off of them. It was looking hopefule but out of the 4 corners where the seat fixes to the rails, one is different. There is no logic as to why other than a scinical viewpoint of stopping you doing anything like I was proposing and therefore have to buy a new seat.

Anyway, the end result is that it cannot be done, the seats are not interchangeable. Thanks fo rthose who gave responses and I hope this summary helps someone else too
