[How To] Get To Berlingo COM 2000 Unit

Thanks for your help, this forum maybe a life saver

Its pretty much as it says in the posts above, though i found that the haynes manual was most enlightening on this. There are three holes in the back of the steering wheel through which you can flick the spring off the lugs and release the airbag without the "forceful australian" technique above that looks almost impossible in comparison.

Electrical wise, make sure you disconnect the battery beforehand. When i did mine, i think the main electrical connector to my new unit was a bit shorter than the original, and it popped out on reinstallation, with the result that my airbag warning light came on. Simply disconnected everything again and refitted it. So its fairly robust (in terms of fitter error!) and doesn't need any special tools/reprogramming. I found a mirror quite handy to see what was going on when using a screwdriver to flick off the airbag retainer spring. I did take a load of photos, but seem to have lost them somewhere...

good luck.

Cheers guys, fitted the new com2000 over the weekend and have all my indicators etc back to as new working condition.

One thing that happens now though is the horn only works when the ignition is off, start the engine and it works only now and again. Anyone know a fix?

I tried the "forceful australian" technique tonight but couldn´t get it to flex enough or get enough movement to get behind it. So I too looked in the Haynes Joke Book and used the 3 slots in the back of the cover. The Joke Book simply says to stick a screwdriver in each slot and move the wire to the side. It doesn´t say which side, how far to stick your screwdriver in, what you´re feeling for, etc. So it must´ve taken me the best part of an hours to get the damn airbag off :brickwall:

However now I have seen how it clips together inside it would only take me a couple of minutes to do - I just hope I don´t have to do it again!

Huge thanks to Andre for the "how to get to the Com 2000", that in conjunction with Haynes and the unit is out! ... damn tricky spring thing to release!

Hopefully my problem is the Com 2000 unit?
Faults -
right indicator blinks 2/3 times then dipped beam comes on and indicator stops.
right indicator works fine with the sidelights or main beam on ...
however, two days ago Full Beam came on of it's own accord and would not turn off not even after the key had been removed and the car locked ... so I disconnected the battery.

Don't know if this is related to the above, but a year ago my fuel gauge stopped working:
The gauge showed 'quarter full', but I ran out of fuel.
From that point on over the course of a week the needle sank lower and lower until it came to rest on empty, where it's been ever since.
It's a slight pain in the ass, I just need to make sure I fill up every 300 miles to be on the safe side.

Hopefully I am doing the right thing in replacing the Com 2000 to get indicators & lights working.
What about the fuel gauge problem?

Any hints, tips, etc greatly appreciated.

Ought to add to the above:

I'd suggest you see it working 100% on a donor vehicle, otherwise no dice.

it seems it doesn't have to be out of another berlingo, I bought one from a scrapyard that was on a Peugeot 307 with very low miles and it works perfectly it looked exactly the same and the only difference is the noise that comes out the speaker on it(lights on alarm etc) new one sounds better and less annoying
one thing to watch out for if you have a multispace you can not use one from a van as it doesn't have the option for rear wiper or rear wash
