I need to change the radiator on my 2001 berlingo van 1.9
they appear to have changed the bottom hose connection to a plug together type that the original one does not have.
so now I may have to change the bottom hose

The Mk I could be delivered with 3 different connection types on the lower radiator hose
1. Jubilee og single-use metal clip (which I assume you have)
2. Bayonet mount. This one is of the press together and twist to lock. Also known as 'Quick fit' some places.
3. Spring clip type. This can be considered a 'bayonet' type fitting, but without the external clamps. Instead, there are three slots around the connector, and you use a triangular clip which fits into these slots to lock behind some tabs on the hose end. Also known as 'a pain in the ass'...
They are of course not compatible with each other in any way...
(I've only seen the Spring Clip type, though, and are guessing that that's the one you got delivered)
The 'good' news is that all bottom hoses connects to the water pump in the same way; a bl**dy awful clip that is best replaced with jubilee clips if you ever manage to get it off...
Now, if it was no. 3, did you get the clip also?
