RD45 stereo
#1
Hi All,

Has anyone fitted or tried to fit a RD45 stereo in place of the standard RD4 unit in a b9 Berlingo ?
The RD45 unit has a USB socket and Bluetooth both of which are highly desirable to me.
I'm concerned about the interface / communication with the car and it's display and if anything would need to be enabled like when fitting the unit like when adding a CD changer to a RD4.
The reason I'm looking at this is I would like the extra facilities, but would like to retain control of the cars settings as they are via the RD4 menu button, the fact the RD45 looks standard is also a bonus.
I understand the car will need to be told about the new stereo's serial number.

Alternatively is there a way of fitting another stereo that would also give the cars menu function and allow the beeping from the reverse sensors steering column controls to still function.

Thanks for any input,

Mark

Hi Mark,
Just to let you know I'm doing a bit of research into this and will be happy to discuss my meagre findings so far. May not be for a few days though as I'm away for a couple of days and now have to go out for the evening! But if you have anything to add in the mean time feel free to post.

Edit: It looks like I'm going for a Kenwood 406dab double din jobby

Yes I see a RD45 will need coding to new car vin (via Lexia software I believe). You could ask the vendor to programme your car details in to the RD45 before delivery if possible, or a friendly forum member who can help; and while they are at it, wouldn't hurt to check all accessory ports/features are enabled (and the fader - to enable rear speakers if it came from a van with no rear speakers). Otherwise local Citroen deal will be happy to take your money to do this for you.

An RD45 isn't cheap to obtain I've noticed. A mic will need to be obtained and wired up too but have not looked into what might be required or how it is wired/plugged into the head unit. Plus obtaining a USB port that plugs into the proprietary port on the back of the RD45. I've seen those available to buy on ebay. You can obtain the Citroen under radio void/tray that has the USB/Aux-in plugs to the side. I found removing that tray is very easy.

CTACTBT002 from Connects2 is a kit that adds to the RD4. It adds Bluetooth handsfree calling, bluetooth streaming, a USB port and an AUX-in port to your stock radio, by plugging into the CD changer connector in the back of the RD4. I like this because it keeps the stock look of the car, and you can use the RD4 head unit or the steering wheel controls to change tracks when streaming from your phone or to accept and reject calls. Costs £90 (other brands on ebay may be cheaper).

Connects2 make an accessory that enables the steering wheel radio controls to retain operation when fitting an aftermarket stereo, and also other settings on the central display like the time and date. Its part number CTSCT003.2. There is a patch lead that goes from this gizmo to your new stereo which you have to specify at the time of ordering. Eg make sure you get Connects2 part number CTKENWOODLEAD to go with part number CTSCT003.2 if you are connecting to a Kenwood stereo; CTPIONEERLEAD for a pioneer stereo, CTSONYLEAD etc

Add Connects2 part number CTRCT001 to your shopping list if you have the Citroen factory fitted reverse parking sensors, which is used with CTSCT003.2 to retain reversing audio.

Thats all I got so far Smile

Great Info patch, I made a enquiry about the connects two unit, they told me it only holds one Bluetooth device in memory which could be a problem as the wife would have to reset it after each time that I used the car, which I don't think would go down well.
It's a shame as its a ideal solution otherwise.

I think its like my old bluetooth adapter I have on an ipod dock/speaker at home. Everyone in the house can and does use it (though one at a time). For that I go into the bluetooth menu on my phone, turn BT on if not already on, and select from a list of available devices in range. It then connects without having to go through the 0000 passcode/ registering hoopla as thats only done the very first time.

Just phoned connects2 (0121 522 5588) about CTACTBT002, the chap I spoke to says his information is there is memory for up to 5 devices but only one phone can be connected at a time. Also, while anything is plugged into the AUX-in socket the bluetooth is not active apparently - worth knowing.

I like that it has a USB port (for charging only not streaming) as the phone battery power can be maintained while connected via bluetooth/streaming.

That's great mate, I made my enquiry by email and must of confused the person, though I tried to be very clear. If your guy has it right then this is the way to go for me .
Thanks for the update

Just my opinion but I would email them and ask again, perhaps link to this thread, to explain why you need clarification - this device is not an inconsiderable expense and you would need to be able to return it if it doesn't live up to its supposed capability.

If I wasn't looking for DAB I would be buying the Bluetooth device from Connects2, as my requirements seem to be identical to yours otherwise.
