which to choose - arron - 28-01-2015

Hello

I'm looking at buying my first multispace and i'm not very car savy. I've identified a couple of options and I was wondering which you thought sounds the better bet. Both these have FSH and look in good condition with full mot and are diesel VTRs

09 plate -only 35k miles 2 owners £5500

2010 plate -105000 miles - £5000 (new cambelt will be fitted on sale)

Do these prices sound ok? Generally is it worth £500 for the fewer miles on the slightly older car?

Any input would be appreciated, is there anything I should look out for on these models?

thanks

Arron

The lower mileage is good for the price the higher mileage is slightly high price and you might try to knock them down a couple of hundred. Lower miles always adds value.

I have a MkIII 1.6 diesel VTR myself and I am very pleased with it.

That said, are you certain that a diesel is the right option for you? They can be troublesome and diesels are going out of favor. Although the current vehicle excise duty and fuel consumption make them look attractive, repair and maintenance costs can soon wipe out any savings.

My next one will be a petrol.

If the 35k miles car has full service history then go for that, I would. Best case scenario would be annual service which should be carried out regardless of mileage & correct oil needs to have been used. Main dealer Fsh should ensure that. There are plenty of Berlingos about in that price range with average mileage, I certainly wouldn't go for one with 105k miles.

Hello Arron welcome to the forum As the other's said go for the first one lower mile's FSH take it for a test drive make sure it does not overly pull to the left keep it well serviced  Smile

I agree with the concensus. The lower mileage one,if tidy,is the one to go for. It's approx 6,000 a year which means it has probably done some longish trips to keep sooting up to a sensible level.A couple of tanks of Millars will probably do it good.Look after it and give it a blast occasionally to keep it clean.Good luck.
