Folding Door Mirrors - Shawks - 31-10-2015

Hi

Can anyone tell me how to deactivate the folding mirrors on my 64 plate mk 3?
Every time I lock the car the mirrors fold in, fine i hear you say, but when you are in and out of it all day, it starts to get anoying! Sad

The mirrors seem to be moving slower and slower this last week, so i am thinking they might have a problem?
I can't find anything in the handbook and i will only go to my local dealers as a last resort££££.

Is this just sad or sign of getting old?

Many thanks in advance. Smile

Hello Shawks welcome to the forum Smile I have folding mirrors on mine it's all right to start off with but as you say getting in and out several time a day it got on my nerve's so the only way to stop them is take the fuse out which iv'e done open the glove box on the left you will see a black cover take that off you will see the fuse's just on the right you will see another little black cover remove the cover you will see some more fuse's the one you need to remove is F 4 15 Amp that will stop your mirror's from folding in / out after that if you want to fold them in or out you can do it by hand and when it come's to sell the berlingo just put the fuse back in and they will start working again.  Wink

Its a nice feature and good visual reminder but I for one will be locking my Berlingo over 50 times a day/ 6 days a week while delivering and I wonder how long it will be before it breaks.

The other thing you cant seem to do is lock it with a door open which it rather annoying. One of the places I load from puts the front end out of immediate sight and on my previous Toyota you could lock the other doors with the boot open which meant the only way you would get in would be to climb through the boot which I can see from the shop window.
Cant seem to do this on the Berlingo and I cant see any door closed switches on the boot hatch to trick it into thinking its shut.

Thanks everyone, I will be trying the old remove the fuse trick later on, it's good to know I am not the only one! Smile

I lock the car whilst leaving the boot up often. Simply push the locking tab across, when the hatch is up, I use the key to do that, then lock the car using the plip. When you return you just have to remember to press the hatch button after unlocking the car otherwise the hatch won't close properly. Some leave the rear hatch catch in the locked position and simply gently lower down but obviously it is not secured and relies on its own weight to stay closed. Not ideal but works for deliveries.

I know this is an old thread but I'll put my 2p in for anyone searching the forum.

My demo van had fold on lock mirrors and when I picked up my new one it did not and I commented on it in the showroom.

No problem the salesman said...

5 minutes later he appeared with my van from the workshop and said all sorted so this must be easily programmable in DiagBox/Lexia and certainly something that you should be able to get complimentary at your next service if required.

I'll have a look next time I hook mine up and see if i can find the right section in the software to change.

Have you also got heated mirrors?

Yes, I have the electrically foldable and heated door mirrors.

For £60 extra I think they were good value.

Might ask the dealer if they can be retrofitted to mine. I ordered mine and picked it up three days later as it was in stock with the exact specification I wanted, except I didn't realise that heated mirrors were an option!

The mirrors although fab for seeing out of are a bit like sails in the wind - on my old Partner I used to fold them in on long motorway journeys and just look out the windows more - used to save ~5-8% on the fuel consumption.
Would be great to be able to fold them on demand for deserted autoroutes and tight urban roads - if anyone ever figures out how to do this do let me know
