start up problem - Liam Twist - 22-03-2016

hello everyone, I have a issue when I try to start up my van. I turn the ignition but the engine will not fully turn over, its all most like the engine is stuttering to turn over but wont fully. Now after turning the ignition 20times and draining and recharging the battery twice, the engine does eventually turn over and runs and starts up after 1 to 2 hours of leaving it parked up. However if I leave it over night I'm back to square one.. I'm guessing I need new glow plugs? Can anyone help me put with this problem, thankyou.

I take it english is not your first language, where are you from?

What engine?

What do you mean "stuttering to turn over but wont fully" - is it turning over or not and how fast is it turning over?

Are you trying to say it turns over but will not fire.

Is it hdi? How's your battery?if that's OK it will be your starter motor common on these.for get glow plugs or relays shouldnt need them, its no cold enough..

If it's the 2.0 hdi, it'll probably be the starter motor. Mine did just what yours was doing, fitted brand new starter (high power one) and fine ever since.
Here's what I bought.

It won't fire... And its a 1.9D none turbo 2005 plate,

RE: start up problem - polar - 23-03-2016

Okay if its a 1.9D and it is turning over but wont fire the first place to look would be the glow plugs.

Dont be tempted to get cheap glow plugs - go for Beru or Bosh plugs

Check battery how old is it? Check all leads from and to battery for good connections check connections on the starter motor to.

start with the easiest.

the battery. get it checked. it sounds to be losing its charge. A good sign winter has taken its toll on it and needs binning.
