Mileage - am I just being a bit thick? - maidon - 24-07-2018

.26th May had my car serviced and the mileage was just over 20,000,  28th June car broke down - no power etc nothing at all.  Got it towed to garage sat there for a week got it back told it was BSI  that needed replaced they fitted one but wasn’t right.    Got car back anyway and mileage was at over 33;000 service manager said it was probably km and would change when right BSI was fitted.  That was done today and it’s at over 34,000 I had a look to see if it can be changed but it looks to me that it is set at miles.

The car is only a year and half old and there is no way I could have done 12,000 miles in less than a month, I had a week holiday when I didn’t use my car.

Any ideas, anyone?

Sounds to me like your dealer has messed up, whether the number is wrong or the units (km/mls) are wrong, the dealer should sort it out. You need to politely but very clearly make them aware of this.

Sounds to me as though you have had a used bsi fitted, many garages, often fit a used ecu kit from another vehicle. Trouble is, this method uploads the mileage from the highest part fitted.
The only way to sort this is to get the mileage altered.
There are plenty of folk who can do it, generally cost £50 - £100.
There is a faint possibility it’s recording KM, but it usually says so next to the figure.

Thank you I just couldn’t think of a plausible reason for it

I wouldn't be happy with the extra mileage and would want it sorted out to what it should be.

Get onto the dealer and tell them to fix it.
