GEARBOX OIL - THE BADGE - 27-10-2018

Hello chaps,
I'm going to change my gearbox oil, not sure when it was last done, I bought the van about three years ago, in the Haynes bible it says to use 75/80 W gear oil, which is no problem, I was just wondering what's the difference between EP 90 ? Which I have always used in the past on other vehicles with no problems, just a queery .     Dodgy

EP90 or Extreme pressure 90 is a it thick and may cause problems with the synchromesh but you could always try it?

Citroen recommend this:

Hi Polar,
checked out your recommendation, & I was looking at exactly same product half hour ago. !!
Many thanks.

Another place worth checking out is GSF. Their normal prices are steep, but most weekends they offer about 60% off, this weekend the code is big60. I have no idea why they do this as I simply won't buy from there at the normal prices, I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Euro Car parts usually have an average of 30% off going on all the time. Just search for a discount code then do a click and collect.
They obviously get enough people buying a full price from walk ins, I doubt account holders pay full price either.

If you go to Comma Oil's website, they have an oil finder feature, it'll show all the recommended products for you car. Halfords sell most of their products, but you can usually find it cheap on amazon with next day delivery.

Basically the difference between EP90 and 70w80 is that the later isn't as thick. The W also means is a multigrade oil so it behaves differently when it gets cold. EP90 is thicker and will get like treacle in winter. EP90 is mostly just used in axles and old gearboxes.

The EP90 might work, but it will probably cause more drag and mean you use more fuel. If your gearbox is badly worn it might make it drive better, but it's a bit of a bodge like tipping thick oil into an engine to stop it smoking so much.

EP90 is great if your gearbox is whining and you are selling the car...
