light's and indicators problem - Squad - 19-10-2020

I have a problem with my light's and indicators which is whenever I put my indicators on my light's come on and my indicators turn off I have to wiggle the lever to get my indicators to work and to turn my light's off.

I own a 2002 1.6 16v berlingo multispace forte, can anyone help me?

Sounds like you have a dodgy indicator stalk connection.

The lad in the video below is repairing one with the same fault.

my dodgy indicator stalk is still on the car and I would know where to start to take it off.

There's quite a few videos on youtube showing how to remove the unit that houses the indicator & wiper stalks (Comms unit) that will help you.

The indicators only stop working when the lights are off but when the lights are on I have no trouble with the indicators.

If wiggling the stalk has an effect as you describe then you will need either a new stalk or a new comms unit, unless the online repair guides work for you and you're happy to fiddle about (see later below).

Search for "com2000". That's the unit which the stalks are mounted onto. They are compatible with many Citroens and Peugeots, so don't automatically limit your results to Berlingo. On the other hand there are a great many different part numbers for them and you may or may not (open for debate) need one with the same part number as yours currently is.

To id the right part number, try this:
Undo the screws (Torx, either T20 or T15) in the lower steering columns shroud. There are two in the corners nearest the steering wheel. There is probably a third one at the other end nearer the pedals.
Remove the top shroud.
This will expose the top of your com2000 and with luck you can see a sticker with the part number on it, which you can now search for.

Here's a photo of what mine looks like:

The part number is the long one on the second row, ending in XT. Yours is probably a different number of course. Now you can search for this number to get hits on exactly the right part. This may also throw up hits for lone stalks.

To get at it properly you need to take the steering wheel off (incl airbag) - as jj9 says, check out guides online to doing this. Complicated!

Look at these for example:

Lots of others out there - take your pick.

Might be an idea to renew the airbag while you're at it.

Lots of breakers list com2000s on eBay for around £30-60.

The two lower stalks (audio and cruise control) are options and unlike the lights and wipers stalks they just plug in and unplug, so some offerings will come with/without one or both. Changing your current stalk quota might make an essential repair into a serious mission possibly including ECO reprogramming, so perhaps the priority right now is to just get a com2000 with the same stalks as you have now, or for example if you currently have an audio stalk, you might be able to plug it into a replacement without one if that's all you can find.

I suggest you also look closely at the two top stalks of any offerings you find, to make sure they have the same lighting and wiping functions as yours. There are different types. Hopefully, if a unit has the same part number as yours it will have the same stalk types, but best to be sure.
