How to know what lower control arm to order - davidjaller - 09-05-2021
Hi there!
I have a 2003 Berlingo Family with 1.6 petrol.
After complaint at inspection on worn ball joint I'm planing to replace my lower control arms both sides.
But when ordering I see there are different types to choose from.
16 / 18 mm cone size.
Manual/ Power steering
Enforced / Hightened / Standard chassi.
But then only in some adds the above are specified. Meaning fits all otherwise?
Well I know I have power steering, but not the other things.
Can I get it from my VIN number? VF7GJNFUC93025861

I had a look on ServiceBox using your VIN but even then there are 2 or 3 options. I know this question has come up before so a search on 'wishbones' may help, or someone else who remembers the answer may be able to help out.

Seems wishbone is more comonly used name so that was a good idea. At least found some post about what trouble I might encounter while doing the job... and their solutions
Still not sure what to buy though. I had a look under car and I have the pressed type wishbone installed, could not find a part number and difficult to messure the bolt while installed. Perhaps I need to disasemble, and then order.

Found one autodoc listing suggesting that
to chassi number 07972 have 16 mm
from chassi number 07973 have 18 mm
Out of VIN VF7GJNFUC93025861 what would be my 5 digit chassinumber? 25861?

I think that Autodoc is probably meaning the RPO number. You can find that on the driver's side door frame. If you search for RPO you will see what the number looks like and where to find it. If you post it here, I'll take another look at ServiceBox & see if it agrees with Autodoc.

I've recently be buying bits for our M49. Finding the best way for me to get the right parts on eBay is to choose the part I think is correct give the seller all the vehicle details and ask them if I have selected the right part for my car even if it matches on the check. Quite often if I made the wrong choice they link me to the part which is right. In any case most sellers seem to appreciate being asked before purchase. I'm finding that my local Europarts don't stock / can't get hold of a lot of basic parts for M49 now so using Ebay more often. Not sure how relevant this is in Sweden

I found the number 09565FV on door frame. So I make out the RPO number 9565 then.
The listnings online are not very consistent on the RPO, but most I found say 16mm for low numbers and 18mm from 7974(or from 08364), so I think I will order one with 18 mm and hope that it fits.

It looks like you have the 18mm version, but no guarantees!
According to the RPO Calculator your car was made on 16 Jan 2003.
From your VIN, I looked on ServiceBox, see attached print.
Also from looking on catcar.info I get the same info. catcar does not recognise your VIN so I used a generic search.
