Dim headlights - subo - 19-12-2022
Although I've had my Berlingo for nearly 3 years, this week was the first time I've driven in the dark. I was really surprised at how bad the headlights were, particularly on dipped. It barely illuminated the road 10 metres ahead even though I had used the 'roller' on the dashboard to raise the lights to their highest level.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it just that the Berlingo has bad lights? Is there any solution?

First of all - make sure your headlight lenses are clean, this time of year with the salt and dirt they dim massively.
Failing that - Osram Night breaker bulbs. I've always used these but recently changed out for Philips Pro9000 LED's with a better result and no flashing from oncoming vehicles.

Does the OP have the van or MPV version? The headlight housing is very different. I've never felt the lights on my K9 van have been inadequate in any way. (Though my reference for comparison is my old M49 van, which is well known for having weak lights - people often flash me when I'm driving that at night, I assume because they think I'm only on sidelights.....)

Had a look at them but noticed in the small print on Philips' web site that they are not for use on public roads!

they're not but I'm also driving about without a number plate since its fallen off and can't get one made as the lease company hold the V5.
If you were to put them in an older style headlight it would be obvious that the units are not for LED headlights. The K9 headlight just looks like it is OEM. I don't think it will be long before they become road legal - the light spread pattern is exact compared to halogen. So far no comments from other drivers yet I would get flashed by oncoming vehicles with night breakers frequently on country roads

Not Pro9000 but Pro6000 are road legal in Germany.
