LukeC, ex-truck driver here for twenty years but have done other jobs, now retired and travelling a lot. So I'm either on a trip or planning a trip. In the meantime I tend to write. I'm based in Germany and recently came back from Mexico but spend a lot of time travelling around Europe and the Balkans in the Berlingo - so it's done a lot of miles.

I always struggled with basic maths and English. Flew through Spanish at school. And when I was introduced to algebra, and the equations for chemistry and physics, I was in my element (no pun intended).

Mark, I love being in the road and not a fan of people. Truck driving is ideal. I'll be happy to be back in work. It's been too long.
What kind of work were you on? I'm class 2, and waiting to hear from a tipper company, and an interview for a food delivery service.

Gardening. I'm a gardener by trade so yes a busman's holiday. Have about 500 pot plants, which in the summer take about 2 hours to water every day. Put up an 8 x 10ft greenhouse by myself last year. Been working on a compost store for the last 5 years, lol.
Also since buying my K9 and deciding not to sell my M49, I've got back into cars. Well, old cars. Will probably buy a classic at some point, though storage is an issue. In the meantime I keep doing bits of work on my M49 - I think it might be what the trade call a 'future classic' anyway (and at the rate I'm going, by the time I've got it up to scratch, it probably will be, lol.....)

LukeC, I started off as a young lad with the National Coal Board as a mechanic. They, for free, put me through the HGV Class1 and the PSV tests when I was old enough. I carried on mechaniking for them and then driving. Eventually moved on to another firm doing Class 1 stuff that didn't require nights away (or not many anyway).
After a spell in another job I worked after for an overland expedition company driving 4wd Bedfords through Africa and Asia.
That got me the travel bug.

That sounds a really interesting and varied career! All being well, I'm aiming for someone to put me through class 1. This interview hopefully brings something. I need work, I crave it. Even been known to take extra work, overnight with a coach to give me a reason not to go to one of my best mates weddings! I'm a bad friend!
I'd take tramping if I need to, I've no partner or anyone to be home for. One little 'un is all grown up ((19)and lives in the states anyway) the other sadly passed on 14 years ago, and would be 20. And holding down relationships is not a strong point.
I'm planning this weekend to maybe get my bike out of storage, give it a strip, clean and rebuild, and get it all up and running again.

I had to go past my lock up earlier. So I got a picture of my toy. I know it's looking a little.under the weather right now and tyres are flat through lack of use.
