Front Fog Lights Not Working - waue1978 - 26-06-2012
I finally managed to get one - the search was long & hard (especially seeing as I wanted air con), but I picked up my Partner Escapade on Sunday. However, we're on a bit of a rocky road at the moment. Folded the seats down when I got back to find that the middle rear seat belt was stuck & the cord that releases the base was broken, but managed to fix that one. Had a bot of a morning mist today & went to put the fog lights on & find that only the rear ones are working. According to the manual, you should turn the inner collar (on the headlight stalk) once to turn on the front fogs & again to turn on the rear ones, but the first turn switches on the rears on my car. I'm pretty sure I have the right stalks in there as they have the 2 triangles on the switch (as opposed to the one on cars that don't have front fogs.
If it sounds like something relatively simple I'll happily sort it myself, but if it sounds like a Comm2000 fault, then I think I need to make a phone call to the dealer (used car sales) that sold me the car as it was MOT'd at the beginning of June & a major fault with the fogs calls the integrity of the MOT into question as it shouldn't have passed.
Anybody got any ideas?

If it was me, I'd be straight onto the dealer. I wouldn't be fiddling with things that should be working

if the dealer isnt too far away take it back otherwise i would be inclined to have a poke around first, also i didnt think front fogs were part of the mot but i may be wrong, hope you get it sorted

The dealer is about an hour away. As far as I know front fog lights are required to work if fitted & that was a few years back. MOT is supposed to be even stricter now.
Think it might be an idea to give them a ring tomorrow & make sure that everything else is working too. Their garage did a cambelt change & had to fix the heater controls (fitted new panel) as the blower was permanently on.

maybe they are part of test then , i just presumed that they are optional so arent testable, hope you get it sorted especially if it is com 2000 unit

You have checked fuses and bulbs haven't you?
Personally I think front fog lights are the work of Satan given the number of eejits who seem to think they enhance the driving experience on perfectly clear nights.

I am inclined to agree with you, also to be included are the eejits who drive around with their rear fogs illuminated despite the fact that the fog had lifted two days previously....... wnakers!!!
At least this phenomenon is not possible with the Berlingo as the relay drops out as soon as the ignition is switched off and the switch-on procedure has to be repeated if one wants the rear fog lights on

To be honest, I haven't. I'm more suspicious about the fact that the rear fogs come on at the first turn of the collar which possibly suggests that the Comm2000 is at fault. Although I'm not new to Pugs & Citroens, I am inexperienced with the Comm2000 units (although I have driven a couple of 406s with floppy indicator stalks), so am unaware of the ins & outs of a fully multiplexed PSA motor. If the fuses were faulty would the rears come on at the first turn or would it still take 2 turns to switch on the rears?

Spoke to the local Pug specialist this morning. He says it sounds like 1 of 2 possibilities:
1. The wrong Comm2000 has been fitted - but the 2 fog light symbols on the stalk suggest highly unlikely
2. It hasn't been configured correctly - at some point somebody has plugged into it & disabled them.
He said that if a fuse goes, it should still take 2 turns to get the rears on as the stalk will still think that it needs to send a signal to the fronts first. Slightly concerned about how somebody would have disabled them by accident though, or even worse, why they would have disabled them deliberately.
God, I hope I haven't ended up with a lemon here...

Hi, Don't presume the electronics are at fault straight away. Start off with the basic stuff first. IE, are the lamps connected, duff lamps, fuses, earths, corroded connections, (a popular one for the front fogs).
Most faults are basic stuff, electronics are pretty reliable unless they start getting tampered with or have been damaged.
You are going to need a volt meter of some kind to diagnose where your problem lies.
Looking at some Berlingo drawings for a DV6B engine, the front fogs are powered from a relay in the engine fuse box fed by fuse 6.
The rear fogs are controlled by the BSI.
Both front fogs use the same earth point which is around the inner wing near the near side head lamp.
Do the basic stuff first and let us know how you get on. :thumbsup:
