Speaker upgrade - alanfish27 - 08-07-2012

Ive just fitted a new stereo for my 2007 Bertie Blingo and now i want to upgrade the speakers in the doors and put some tweeters in the dash. I have purchased the adapter cables for the doors and dash and have opted for some InPhase 6.1 speakers and tweeters.
My question is my new speakers have come with 2 crossover units. Do i have to use them?
Hope someone can help.....
Alan

if they have come with it then probably yes otherwise you may cause damage to the speakers if they receive the wrong frequencies

Definitely Alan, the crossover unit splits the HF & LF signals and sends High Frequency to the tweeters and Low Frequencies to the woofers. Get this wrong and your CD or whatever will sound like a dog's breakfast.
When you have sucessfully fitted your new system you can come and replace mine which already sounds like a dogs breakfast!

Upgraded my speakers a while ago and mine, too, sounds like a dog's breakfast with the original head-unit.
Can someone explain the 'yellow wire-red wire ' mod.Confusedcratch:
Do I cut the yellow and red on the Berlingo loom and swop them round? Confusedtudy:
Nice to have confirmation before getting the snips out....Confusedillyme:

No, but seen the film.
When working with explosives, always cut the blue wire after waiting for the countdown to reach 3 seconds at least.:woop:

Ready for cutting wires tomorrow.
Advice would be useful....

RE: Speaker upgrade - tucker - 14-07-2012

The yellow and red wires should have metal clips on them that pull apart. This allows you to swap them over without cutting anything?

Done it.
Sony head unit came with push fit connectors on the harness for yellow and red wires only.
(They have obviously had this problem before.)
Left as they were, yellow-yellow & red-red, lost memories.
Swopped round, yellow-red & red-yellow, works fine.
You even have the option of yellow and red to yellow, piggy-back style.
Thank you Sony.

Martin, I had a bit of a delve behind the radio aperture myself at the weekend, aside from the two "lego Bricks" comprising the loom, what is the large metallic plug centre of the unit to? Not the aerial plug.... some arse has messed about previously in here hence the gobs of insulting tape...
