Starter Motor Solenoid? - jimbo - 05-09-2012 I think the starter motor has gone the car is a 1.6 hdi 07 , moved the car OK this morning ,she who must be obeyed could not start it this afternoon, I somehow get the blame as she shouted down the phone "It was OK until you touched it !" looked at it tonight and I am getting 12v on the starter motor and 11v on the solenoid connection when it should be cranking has any one else had a starter just give up all of a sudden like that? RE: Starter Motor Solenoid? - ron - 05-09-2012 Like anything electrical, things pop just like a light bulb.Try jumping from battery to motor feed terminal,if the motor spins(it won't engage) the solenoid is the likely culprit. RE: Starter Motor Solenoid? - jimbo - 05-09-2012 Thanks for the reply Ron ,I think your correct the solenoid winding has just gone open circuit ,as you say just like a light bulb at least it happened near the house ,Do you think it would be OK to bump start a 1.6 hdi RE: Starter Motor Solenoid? - ron - 05-09-2012 (05-09-2012, 07:58 PM)jimbo Wrote: Thanks for the reply Ron ,I think your correct the solenoid winding has just gone open circuit ,as you say just like a light bulb at least it happened near the house ,Do you think it would be OK to bump start a 1.6 hdi The common belief is that you should not,but I have done it with no problems.Have I been lucky? With petrol it is supposed to soak the"cat" with unburnt fuel which burns off the precious metal coating, but with diesels I am honestly not sure. |
