Google - taxi - 01-10-2012

TomTom have replaced the Google Search function from the LIVE devices with their own Search option. This change takes place when device is updated on computer... goodbye ole Google Search.:eek:Confusedcratch:

RE: Google - evdama - 01-10-2012

I almost bought a tomtom a few years ago but saw a scare story on The Register.
The two major players in the market, tomtom and garmin both chose different ways of expanding their futures
Garmin chose to start their own separate mapping company while tomtom chose the brand name and publicity method and continued to buy their mapping from an independant.
However, Nokia, keen to put satnav on all their phones cheaply, started making aggressive buying noises at this same independant mapping outfit.
For a while it looked like tom tom would end up buying mapping from a direct competitor.Fatal.
And not too good for existing tom tom owners....
I didnt ever hear the conclusion but it would appear everything worked out OK.

The TomTom search engine for local searches cannot compete at this time with Google, in my opinion. Tried imputting obvious poi's into their database and no joy in 90% of trying, Google finds them in seconds.

Spoke to them today, and it appears that their database will be improved with a new update.
