A 64 plate won't have smart alternator. I took my split charge from the positive battery post, into the fuse, into the maypole voltage sensing relay and off down under the passenger seat to my leisure...

I actually consider it a blessing that this doesn't work on mine even after a 230 mile trip.its a pain and when it did work I switched it off every time I got in.

The front is slightly higher hence the slight increase in lowering. It should sit dead level with what you have described.

I bought the khyam motordome tailgate awning for mine, very fast to put up and take down. You can also shut the tailgate at night.
