Just do it by feel that is what i do, use a 3/8 drive socket so you dont have too much leverage.

Im not up on the petrol engines but if you have a crack in the manifold its not going to help. Is it inlet or exhaust manifold.

Yes you can change the bushes but to keep the costs down you will need to do it yourself. It should all be in a Haynes manual how to do.

Its a rubber gasket and at its age it will have some kind of sealer on it. Yes its worth replacing the gasket - i got my last one from GSF but eurocarparts will have one.

When you engage the clutch it takes away a certain amount of drag and that could be the reason the noise stops. It defo cambelt or auxiliary belt related try loading the alternator with lights heater...

Yes lift the front as there is a baffle that is very high in the reservoir and the fluid stays in the front but the back empties and you start drawing air. So yes you must lift the front.
