That could even be the BSI. The Berlingo is prone to leaking at a point right above it... That tends to kill stuff.
Mine was a 1999, and that's Pre-BSI.(Just a rather lumpy fusebox in there.)

Why did you do the rubber seals under the cylinder liners?
And if you did that, you might as well have replaced the bearing shells where the con rods clamp onto the crankshaft.
