Van passed MOT after a lower ball joint needed fitting on front suspension driver side. The garage gave me the benefit of the doubt on the airbag light which comes on intermittently (and came on part way through test although it was off at the start). Glad to be up and mobile, van now drives like a dream. Just need to change gear linkage going forward to sweeten up the gear lever which is a tad waffy. It feels like its in neutral even when in gear but gear selection okay...Im just getting carried away with the TLC now. Old rear axle is being collected from here on Monday by the supplier of the reconned one. All I had to do was phone them to say it was ready and wrap it in plastic. Im a happy chappy at the moment. Cheers to all again.
PS. Axle was supplied by IM Axle specialists in Nottinghamshire. Cost £299 delivered (£50 carriage) and includes collection of old one plus 2 years guarantee. Came with new trailing arm bearings and torsion bars fitted. Satisfied customer here.

Great news. The usual thing for the airbag light is the wiring / connection under the seat which connects to the seat belt pretensioners.Have a good look at the condition of the cables as well.

Thanks for that. Ive got a year to fiddle with it. Its been doing it for over a year now and Ive squeezed through two tests by getting the sympathy of the testers. One garage reckoned theyd solved it on the 2013 test but it came back on a week later.
Anyway Im thinking of doing the whole gear selector rod and links next. Me thinks I'll be on the forum again soon looking for advice.

My airbag light comes on whenever the driver seat is adjusted. I just uncouple the joint under the seat and reconnect it and it goes away till next time the seat is moved. My niece has a Peugeot Partner and lost gears at the NEC in Birmingham. She drove it home about 70 miles with no reverse and only 2nd and 4th gears. I jacked it up for a look and it was the long rod on the selector mechanism so I priced it up at the local Peugeot supplier £31 inc vat. We have a Citroen main dealer local and  it was £27 inc vat there. We could have got one from ebay for less but she wanted it done immediately. I used a length of wood and a hammer to knock the old one off from underneath and it just clicked on from the top to replace it. It didn't take 30 minutes and she had been dreading having to have a new gearbox and all sorts of worst case scenarios.
So where does this bit go then ?

Gilesf in 2015 mentioned a Citroen specialist in Heeley who knew how to replace just the torsion bar rather than the whole axle. As ive had a torsion bar snap I’m curious Any help would be fantastic does anyone know which garage it is or if Gilesf is till on the forum please cheers

Cant find a Gilesf in the membership list or the post mentioned.

There are a lot of references to changing torsion bars on that utube thingy, the Russians like doing them , probably due to their roads which are nearly worse than ours for potholes.

There have been posts about doing them at home but I think its cheaper and quicker to change the whole subframe as the other side torsion bar could go at anytime. Getting a garage to do it would be a lot dearer than fitting a re-conned one. I think the subframe has to be dropped whether its for changing a torsion bar anyway and I think they would recommend doing both sides.
The trailing  arm bearings would be renewed in a re-conned one but not if just the torsion bar were changed.

Signs of wear on the trailing arm bearings are the top of the rear wheels leaning in which if so can put extra strain on the torsion bars

Can you paste a link to that thread from Gilesf? I did a user search and could not find that username. Maybe someone else on here will know about the torsion bar, I imagine that it's possible to replace them and have seen them on ebay but it will probably mean taking the axle off first.
There are plenty of axle replacement threads on here, and a search for 'torsion bar' may well turn up what you're looking for. If you can't find what you're looking for via a search, a new thread in the M49 or M59 sections should throw up a couple of answers.
