Heater Blower Relay / resistor location
#1
Hello,

My heater blower fan has suddenly stopped working. All happened suddenly.

I thought it might be a fuse, only to fine there is not one. So my guess is a relay / resistor has gone.

Thing is, how do I find it? I've taken out the glove compartment and can't see anything. Have also looked under the drivers footwell. This looks more promising, but would really value photos or guidance - if anyone has any?

It's a 2009 1.6hdi Model - new shape.

Thanks

Tim

Resistor pack is up under dash, driver's side, in plastic heater ductwork. One screw, slide back and remove. Separate plug, insert new pack, job done. You'll need a good light and arms like a monkey.

Usually, when resistor goes, the fan still works on high setting.

Thanks.

Fan completely dead on all settings.

Do you reckon I'm better trying the relay under the fuse box in glove compartment first then?

Apologies for the short reply earlier, I was on my way out.

Reading through the thread I linked to there was a guy who had the same symptoms and it was the relay behind the glove box that had burned out so yes it would be worth checking that first.

You could try what I did but, although I labelled in the thread as fixed, the fan packed up again within a week. I tried cleaning again but it wasn't successful so I got another fan from a breaker, £80 vs Citreon £300! And it's worked beautifully ever since.

Thanks for info.

I take it the relay is the green square one that is under the glove compartment fuse box. It pulls out downwards.

Does anyone know what it's called or referred to as - for when I try and source a new one?

Cheers

Hello,

Have sorted the problem. The relay had blown.

To help others, the relay is located underneath the fuse box in the glove compartment.

The glove compartment surround needs to be removed to access this - just undo the screws and pull out.

Here is a photo showing the burnt out rely:

We bought a replacement at the local citroen dealer - cost £8.

Pull the old one out, put the new one in. Heater blower fan now works again.

Main clue to this diagnosis is that the fan was dead on all settings. If the resistor is the problem, it sounds like the fan will only work on full power - ie 4.

Here is the location of the relay:

Hope this helps others!

Cheers,

Tim

Sorry to dig up an old thread...
My car 1.6hdi 70bhp fan switch died today.

I was idling in the heat today for about 25 minutes with aircon on full, I then drove 3 miles with aircon still on, when I arrived at my destination and turned off the ignition my in car fan carried on running ( I didn't switch the air con off just switched the engine off) I restarted the car, turned ignition off again and the in car fan stopped. A few minutes later I went back to the car and started it but the fan switch did nothing. I checked the 40amp fuse under the bonnet which was fine, I then removed the GREEN relay which was burnt. I'm hoping to pickup a relay from the breakers tomorrow as my neighbours son said Something has had to cause the relay to pop... Can anybody shed any light onto what causes this to happen. Thank you
