#1
I have a mk2 1.6hdi and it gets 49 - 51mpg.................im considering trading it in for a mk3 also in a 1.6hdi. Just wondering is there any difference in mpg between the 2............... dont want to change if it uses a good bit more as i put up high enough mileage

I've got a mk3 with the hdi 110. After 9600 km so far on mostly city and country lanes I'm averaging 48.7 mpg.

Hi my mk 3 vtr gives me around local region and up and down a hill 1000ft high to my home about 42-44 mpg but on the flat and on a run I cnstantly get 49.5, I do however always have a van full of cooker, plates, tools, tow rope, clothes, etc. Silly really but an old habbit of being self sufficient.
Empty I would it to be a lot more. I have now done 21k in it. It also has bull bar on front, bike rack on back, roof bars , all always fitted, giving more drag.

Pop along to Hellfrauds and get some Millers diesel treatment it does precisely what it says
on the bottle and does pay for itself.
You will notice an improvement almost immediately especially accelerating off the lights.

I think your 1.6 could give you well over 50mpg, unless you're thrashing it.
On a recent reasonably sedate run of over 200 miles mine turned in 68mpg! :woop:

After 3500 miles my Mk 3 110 is showing 51.3 mpg which again, considering hilly terrain is pretty good.

I recently reset my average mileage reading. After a couple of hundred will report again.

My 1.6 hDi 90hp returns a pretty consistent low 40s mpg. I've been tracking the fuel use with a spreadsheet and Fuelly since we got it. The computer is reporting a little better. I have found that when we fill up at 1/4 tank, the calculated mpg is generally on the lower side, whilst if we fill up when its in the red, it tends to be better.

The specs say the 110hp is more efficient, and I guess with the extra 20hp you don't have to work it quite so hard on hilly bits.

Just had my first service at 12,500 and average over that distance is 52.3mpg. Mind you I drive like an old f*rt. About half the time I'm on long motorway runs but the weekly+ trip to the nearest town involves a 15km climb to 3,000ft which shows around 22mpg on the instantaneous readout.

I know the average is over the 12,500 because I lack the smarts to reset it despite the best efforts of the book of words. Can reset the mileage totaliser but not the mpg average doodad.

On my old Scenic the running average automatically reset at 9,999.

I seem to get very reasonable MPG until I do over 55 mph when it appears to get steadily worse -even on motorways etc, although cruise control does help a bit. I suppose carrying 4 passengers impacts on the fuel consumption somewhat.
