There's a reason why so many russian drivers have dashboard cams...
Actually, there's a lot of reasons...
1. A lot of drivers should never have had the license in the first place(corruption. They buy the license)
2. Others never bothered, and drive without...
3. Vodka!
4. Shitty tires. Really shitty tires. We've had burglaries here in Norway where the thieves have stolen used tires from tire shops. Many shops now have as standard procedure to ram a knife blade through the sidewall of old tires when they remove them from the rims. They don't want the worn-down tires to end up being the cause of yet another episode on one of those compilations.
5. No respect for the law... None at all.
I visited Nickel(a small mining town somewhere between Murmansk and the Norwegian border) on a daytrip last summer. The driver of the minibus told us to be very, very careful about crossing the street as the drivers would probably NOT stop for pedestrians wanting to cross the streets, even at marked zebra crossings.
If a truck isn't used for international freight, odds are that the tires are completely bald...
The only russian trucks I know of that can be expected to have decent tires is the ones coming to Norway to pick up loads of Salmon. The processors won't even let them load up if the vehicle doesn't pass a cursory safety check at the loading ramps. (Tires, chains in the winter, and a few other points)

Some of those people had god on their side. How some of those didn't have fatalities is a miracle.
