[Steering & Suspension] Inner track rod joint replacement, 2006 1.6Hdi

I posted about a month ago that the MOT had thrown up an advisory that the steering rack inner track rod joints were showing signs of wear. I need to get this fixed before I fit new tyres.
The parts seem to be available for under £20 each online (though not genuine Citroen ones), but I've subsequently had a quote from the dealer that replacing them (including parts, VAT, and readjustment of tracking) will deprive me of over 300 beer tokens :o(
Has anyone else had this work done either by a dealer or independent garage please? I'm just wondering how horrendous a job it is - though dodgy back will almost certainly prevent me doing it.
