Tuning box & limp mode
#1
A few weeks ago I fitted a tuning box (from Race Chip). At first I had a few problems because the tuning box was set too high, and it was throwing the engine light on and going into limp mode. Id turn the box down and a mate wouod plug it in and clear the code. (The code was fuel rail pressure too low). Its been fine on its current setting for a week, and now the same thing has happened when pulling away (quite enthusiastically i may add). However, I am a long way from home and I am unable to plug it in to clear the code.. Does anyone know if disconnecting the battery for a period of time will reset the ecu? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi if you disconnect the battery and leave reconnecting for half an hour the fault should clear.

Had the same issue with chip may still be a bit hot on the tune.

Good luck

I would disconnecting the tuning chip until you get home in case it happens again

It came out of limp mode when I connected the battery back up and the engine light switched off after a few miles... I've turned the box down a couple of settings so I'll see how I go...

Thinking about a DPF delete pipe and getting it mapped out. It only seems to go into limp when the DPF starts a regen..

Error P242F - Diesel Particulate Filter (Bank 1): Restricted/Clogged

Too much rail pressure! Been there, done that Smile

I'm gonna remove DPF soon too..

If you get rid of the dpf make sure it still looks like its in place, as its now part of the mot as a visual check.

If its missing and it's supposed to have one its an automatic fail

Usually they just remove the inner core of DPF so you can't detect on a visual inspection..

In my case, i'm gonna make a new downpipe without DPF because it's easy for me to get the green paper every annual inspection..

The error I was getting was 'Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low' (I can't remember the code!) I'm guessing i was getting that because when the DPF does a regen the pressure should go up, but the tuning box was already producing such high pressure? Correct me if I'm wrong..

I've never taken a DPF apart but I guess you dismantle it and remove the insides? Whereas a cat you would smash the insides out with a bar..
