1.6 HDi 75 or 2.0 Hdi?
#1
Hi,

I am torn between two options and could really do with some advice;

A 1.6 HDi Desire 75bhp at £2995. 91k, good service history, but not perfect. With tow bar and roof racks (which I do need)

A 2.0 HDi Desire at £3995 at £3995. 70k, 1 owner, FSH. No tow bar or roof racks (which I would buy and fit, about £400 cost)

If the 1.6 was the 92bhp then I think I would go for that one, but it isn't and the 0-60 and top speed figures look slow, though the MPG is good and a little better than the 2.0.

I am not convinced the MPG will actually be better than the 2.0 as I imagine I would have my foot to the floor more as I am often in a rush and do not always drive 'economically'.

As an aside, do you know if the front passenger seat in these folds flat to allow carrying of long things - planks of timber for example?

Very many thanks for any advice, greatly appreciated,

Richard

I've got a 1.6hdi 75hp, it is not the most powerful vehicle I've ever had but it goes well around town and is happy at the legal limit on the motorway. I don't have much weight in mine but I do tow a motorbike trailer with it without a problem.
I have never driven a 2.0hdi but I have driven the old 1.9 Berlingos which are right numb pigs in comparison. If most of your journeys are in built up areas the 75hp Berlingo will be nippy enough.

As for the front seat, yes they fold down to the same height as the load bed, and give you an extra 12" ish.

Hello Rich welcome to the forum take them both for a test drive then make up your mind the 75 will be more economic and will still have plenty of get up and go and it as the kit you need if your still not sure wait for a 90 to come along

You could always get the 1.6 then with some of the grand you have saved get it remapped to make it more nippy.

75hp and 90hp have the same "hardware".. The only difference on the engine is the ECU Map..

I would choose 1.6HDi 75hp (and then, remap it Wink)

"75hp and 90hp have the same "hardware" " On the 1.6 engine, yes.
But the choice is between a 1.6 and a 2.0, - not the same engine!

Obviously I was talking about 1.6 engine.. Richard said "If the 1.6 was the 92bhp then I think I would go for that one". So why not buy the 75hp version and then remap to 90/92hp? Wink

Hi,

I have 1.6 Hdi with 75 ps, it goes quite well, I don't see an issue here.
BUT knowing what I know now about turbo disasters linked to this type of engine (all Hdi 1.6 variants are affected), I would go for a 2.0 engine as a safer choice for used vehicle.
