Mk1 Berlingo rear beam lowering
#1
I consider myself quite a reasonable mechanic, but this has to be the single hardest job I have ever undertaken, I'm following this guide:

http://www.suzukituning.com/PSA/Suspension/Lowering.htm

At no point is there any mention of skinned knuckles, seized bolts, crumbling metal and every kind of fear coming from working on semi suspended vehicles.

I hate this job. That is all.

I doubt you will find torsion bars any thicker than a top weight spec Berlingo unless you were to have them made up?
I dont understand why you would want a stiffer ride at the back anyway, these vehicles will oversteer without too much persuasion as it is,any stiffer and it would skit about all over the place.
If it is to carry more weight then you're van is overloaded as it is.
That is my opinion anyway.
Cheers, Danny.

From my experience I never get lift off oversteer but the car does ride with very nice neutral steer. Although yes you guessed it correctly, I think my other plan is to botch a ghetto stabilizer bar once I get this welder sorter. I'm liking the neutral steer a lot as it's far better than understeer but still it will be great if I can make it more fun to drive for a FWD.
A stiffer torsion bar could have helped me with the lowering as well so it doesn't travel so much

To loosen the bars you should hit them on the side a good 300mm from the splines, around the perimeter. The shock wave will do more than you might imagine.

Lowering any car with torsion bars is a job I've never yet attempted, even though I've owner a few cars with them on over the years.
