Fuse 19
#1
Van is a mk1 on s reg and no bsi unit just good old fashioned electrics. My instrument panel doesn't light at night it turns out that fuse 19 is the fault trouble is it keeps blowing all the time put new one in and blows as soon as you turn sidelights on. From a fuse diagram it says fuse 19 is interior lighting but all that still works! I'v removed the instrument them seleves and tried but still keeps blowing.

Any pointers? Cheers!

Hi,
Looking in the Haynes manual fuse 19 does indeed cover the instrument panel via the steering wheel switch but I can't see mention of the interior light/s. It says it covers rhf sidelight/lhr sidelight & number plate lights.
There is obviously a short to earth somewhere in the wiring it's going to be a case of tracing all the wires unless someone else knows a likely place to start looking.

You have a short to earth along the sidelight circuit somewhere.

You will need to do a continity test along the circuit until you find it.

Does anybody have a circuit diagram to help with this?

Thanks for the swift replies

I'd have thought had fuse 19 control sidelights these would not be working. However mine are including the plate lights.

After market radio fitted?? Cigarette lighter bulb can also cause it, there's quite a few lights in the cabin that are on that fuse. Disconnect em one by one (hard as you obviously can't get em to light up lol)
