My '09 1.6Hdi 90 XTR is being serviced next week at 34000 miles by my ace Mobile Servicing bloke and I am confused as to whether I should have the coolant replaced or not. The service manual says just check it at each service, presumably only replacing it if it fails the check. I know the coolant can be checked for antifreeze efficiency but what about its corrosion inhibiting properties? I also have a 2008 campervan with the same engine, based on the Pug Partner and the manual for that says the coolant is there for the life of the vehicle. Are modern coolants really that clever now? If so I'll happily resist my old fashioned instincts to change it. My service engineer is also of the old school and a bit wary, though open to correction.

Thanks for the replies. Out of curiosity, I did a bit more searching on the 'net and nowhere could I find a reference to 'coolant for the life of the vehicle'. Five years seems to be the norm with modern cars, changing it using the coolant recommended in the manufacturer's handbook. Of course, in their wisdom, neither Citroen nor Peugeot recommend a coolant or tell us what was used originally on the basis that they don't seem to expect you to change it. I dare say a dealer could tell me but how daft. I'll be following Ron's example and buying a quality product and making sure the system gets flushed.
