2nd ignition key
#1
Hi.
When I purchased my Berlingo last week there was only one key with it. As I like to have a spare and the one with the car didn't lock in the open position I went to the local Citroen dealer to get a new remote one. I was quoted 5 to 10 days and approximately £200.
While I thought about it I went on the internet and found that Timpsons, the shoe people, advertise replacement keys. I went to Timpsons in Wakefield Asda.
I said I wanted a new remote key and that I would keep the original as a spare due to it not locking open. There was a problem with the computer and so he couldn't do it there and then. He rang me yesterday (Sunday) to say the computer was working again. I went in today and within 20 minutes I left with a new case on my remote key (now locks in open position) and a non remote spare key both of which I have used today to check they work.
Cost £85.00 but reduced by £5.00 by the manager due to the computer being down the first time I called.
If you need a new key (any vehicle) I can't recommend Timpsons enough. Fantastic service.

Hopefully he doesn't mean disrobed  I'll have to look into this as our second key only opens the doors but will not start the car.
So where does this bit go then ?

I don't think Timpsons etc can provide remote keys, for a start, they have no facilities to program them to the car.
I do full replacement flip keys for £80 so long as you have the transponder code. A simple key is £25.

Halls locksmiths on alfreton road, notts will do a second non remote key and copy your transponder chip over for 35 quid the last time I wanted one as long as you have a working transponder key, they don't do the remote version but replacement cases are under a fiver from eBay anyway...

Speaking of robbed, a previous owner may still have that other key?
Quite likely honestly lost or hidden somewhere but still worrying.

Thanks Lighty. I accept that they may not be able to do remotes in all branches as can be seen from their website but I don't think they would be allowed to advertise remotes if they can't do them. When I called there I specifically asked for a remote and asked if they were able to program them without me supplying a code and they said no problem. The charge was £150 compared to £200 from the dealer and would take approximately 20 minutes. The only reason I couldn't get a key on the first visit was because the computer for programming the key was down. What impressed me the most was that they offered me a much cheaper alternative anyway but I have no doubt that they could and would be able to supply a remote key had I really needed one. Indeed they informed me that if the existing remote went faulty they could use the non remote key to make a new remote for me. I guess the simple answer is if somebody needs a new remote don't take my word for it put them to the test.
